“Travelling is like dreaming: the only difference is that not everyone, once awaken, can recall their dream. Whereas, everyone has a vivid memory of the trip from which he has returned”.
Edgar Allan Poe
This is a dream that arose from a passion for travel, culture and the importance of discovering and becoming familiar with other ways of life.
Handmade tour is an agency which creates ad hoc combinations for everyone, from single tourists to couples and groups of every age. We stick closely to the personality and needs of people travelling to this area.
Handmade Tour focuses directly on a small and special part of Italy; the Gulf of Poets, the area between the regions of Liguria and Tuscany which stretches between the Apuan Alps and the sea and between the Appenines of Tuscany/Emiliano and the sea that laps the coast around the Cinque Terre, the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Cities famous for their artworks like Lucca, Pisa, Genoa and Parma are an hour away from La Spezia in the car and an hour and a half from Florence.
Our tours take in all the beautiful and interesting things there are to see, discover and try in our part of Italy. There are wine and gastronomy tours, linked to traditional local products (wine, oil, pesto and honey), art, history and culture tours, shopping tours for lovers of fashion and design and things made in Italy in general, tours linked to sporting activities, such as trekking, diving, climbing and rafting/ canyoning andtours linked to music and entertainment.
The essential element of all our tours is the focus on the traditions and unique features of the inland area of the upper Val di Vara valley, the Colli di Luni hills and the vast area of great natural beauty which extends from Lerici to Portovenere and across the whole of the Cinque Terre.
We have only one mission: to fully meet the expectations of those wanting to discover this area of Italy, squeezed between the sea and the mountains, offering the chance to become a temporary inhabitant of this area and observe the habits of those who live here, visiting and seeing at first hand all the places where the local traditions were born. At the heart of this area there are villages and small towns rich with traditions and dialects which encompass all the fantastic things that nature has to offer.
We also want to give travellers the opportunity to see the local market, the fresh fish just brought back from the sea, the farmer cultivating his land, the work needed to produce the traditional pasta and testaroli, pizza and farinata (chickpea bread), the craftsman who make the traditional wooden clogs of Portovenere, the boutiques, the sea seen from up high, the castles, the made in Italy design, the music and the traditional festivals and feast days of the area.
From the Cinque Terre to the upper Val di Vara, from the Colline del Sole of Magra to the marble of Carrara, the sea, beaches, rocks and islands, the local festivals, typical products and small cities: Sarzana with its old town, citadel and fortress, craft workshops, Porta Parma and Porta Romana which which mark the entrance to the town centre. The art and music.
The town: La Spezia with its fashion boutiques and design shops, its pizza and farinata, the old town with its little known history, the promenade, the hillside, the castle and the age-old Piazza Brin area. All the villages and small towns overlooking the sea and inland.
